The fall of Communism must rank as one of the most startling events of my life time. I grew up in a bi-polor world where two superpowers competed for dominance. By the end of the 1980's I had an inkling that Communism in Russia and Eastern Europe was a house of cards waiting for a western breeze. I didn't realize that the collapse would be so near and so total. In the summer of 1967 I visited my brother Jack in Berlin. He was in the Air Force. I made several visits to the Berlin Wall. With the strength of Russia, it seemed like the wall would last forever. I returned to Germany in 1980 as an Army Officer and practiced tactics to combat the Communist hordes. How odd that it should pass with such amazing speed.
