Al Gore conceeds election to G.W. Bush

This was a heart breaker. I was a Gore backer and I followed the polling all through 2000. Everyday on the computer I would check out the latest polling and find Bush or Gore ahead by a little bit. I volunteered to work on election day as a deputy inspector at my local polling station. It was a long day. My son, Simon, thinks that I'm psychic. I told him to watch Florida. "Whoever wins Florida will win the election", I said. Sadly, that proved to be true.

The aftermath of the election was even more entertaining than the pre-election and the election itself. I'm OK with GW winning, but I do think that Gore was the better man and did get the more votes in both the nation and the state of Florida. For a political junky like myself, the month after the election was riviting.
