This drama unfolded while I was in Korea. The 1972 election happened a week before I left the USA. (I didn't vote, but if I would have, it would have been for McGovern.) Then the events of Watergate progressed gradually. It was like a drama from home. In 1973 I was starving for news from America and Watergate filled me up. I was constantly listening to the radio and buying TIME magazine. All of my Korean friends and fellow Korean Teachers couldn't understand why I disliked Nixon so much. They all thought that he was a great president. "So what if he lied a little bit". I was at a train station in Seoul when the news finally came that Nixon would resign. It was a big event in my life, maginified by sojourn abroad. |

Nixon's resignation and his resignation speach. My friend Meng delights in the news of the resignation. "Good bye and good riddence, Tricky Dick!" |
