You are so funny, and people who are receiving your e-mail should be grateful that you take time to write and inform them. > I have been getting good responses from my travel log "Top ten emails in my life" "funniest email in a long time", etc. It's fun. Keep on writing. It is raining here, probably it is snowing there, isn't it? I told my friend who is getting her doctorate in Indiana It's not snowing yet. In fact today is a wonderful day. It could snow any day now though. I'll tell you when it does. that you are in Poland and studying. She told me that you are going to write a book before you are twenty five. I guess you are young but you are old experience wise. > > I love you. > > mom > I was just thinking about this on the way here. I decided that I like to study history, languages, philosophy and literature more than political science or economics. I don't know about writing a book before I'm 25. It's definitely possible but the book that I want to write will require years of study. Have you ever heard of Umberto Eco? He is one of the best contemporary writers and is very difficult to read. I want a personal philosophy, supported by history, travel widely and read widely. I'm reading a lot here (not news). I was thinking that I should write about my experience here soon because in 10 years everything will be different and no one will even remember it. You should read some Polish history. It's really interesting. They have a very romantic, passionate history. I think that the literature of Poland and Korea is very similar in that it is full of tragic situations and oppression. I hope Korea becomes whole again soon. Take care. Do you have enough clothes to wear? Do you have time to exercise? Do you eat balanced food? I have mommy questions but I will stop here, before I go too far. **************** I need to buy gloves and a light scarf but other than that I have enough clothing. If you want to bring something when you come in December, a dark turtleneck and a heavy blazer would be nice. Ask dad if he has read the Sufferings of Young Verther, by Goethe. Have you? I want to read it but it's impossible to find a copy. Anyway, I have been exercising here more regularly than anytime in my life. They have a decent gym next to the school that costs about $1.50 an hour, once it starts snowing, I'll probably go about 2 times a week. Now I am doing calisthenics 3 times a week and walking a lot. Just living in Europe is healthier because you walk so much. I guess it would be the same in San Francisco. As far as food is concerned, there's not much I can do. Just imagine dad cooking polish food every day. I am sure that half of my caloric intake is from fat. I'm drinking a lot of water and eating vitamins and have been pretty healthy. There aren't too many vegetables. I eat really cheap food everyday and maybe once a week splurge on a big salad. When I was at Stanford I concentrated on eating well, here I'm concentrating on exercising. When I get back I'll try to put the two together. I got the letter for the foreign service exam. I'm trying to study for that a little. Have you decided where you want to go for Christmas? How's Simon doing? Are you going to Portland for Thanksgiving? How did you're short story go? Did you read it in class? I have thought a lot about creating things and I am fairly certain that I will do that (writing, composing, etc). But I am in no hurry. I want to read all that I can, travel, see everything before I write. I want to allude to things, connect things, see things differently. Zac |
