Most of the classes are ending Dec 13, rather than Jan. 25, a significant difference. Also, I have a much greater access to materials in the US and my study of the non-academic aspects, i.e. people, travel, will likely be greatly impeded by the snow and cold generally associated with winter. I think that I have decided on my thesis, my classes will be over, it will be winter, and it will be cheaper for me to come back. My plans were to leave on Feb27, now I think that I want to revise that to something like January 30. I must be back by April1, but before I go back to school I have to find: a.a job, b.a place to live, c.access to library, d.prepare for Russian class, e.thesis preparation f. gradschool research, etc. stay anywhere except Krakow would likely be prohibitively expensive. I came here expecting a semester long set of courses at the graduate level. When I came, I discovered that there was a majority of undergraduates and that most classes would end on or before December 13 (one of my classes is over Dec 3). I still have much work to do but this is my schedule. dec19-2=vacation with family jan3-15=finish and turn in all of my work jan 15-25=Gulbene, Latviajan 25-feb5=stay with friends in Paris and London (fly home from London) This is my schedule, even with ample time for vacation, it won't take the whole time. Actually, I don't mind coming back on the 27th, it just will be more expensive and unnecessary. I guess I could stay until the middle of feb. I'll find out more about the exam schedule here soon. Remember, I decided this return date before I knew when classes were to end. I'll talk to you more when I see you. I have a friend from Antwerp who will show me around for the 29th and 30th. He said that a ticket from Brussels to Krakow costs around 50 bucks. I'm studying hard for that exam. I think that The Economist is the best magazine in the English language. I think that it would be worth it to get a subscription. Anyway, I am looking forward to your visit. Zach |
