December 9, 2003

Hello family & friends,

Merry Christmas! The year of our Lord 2003 was a year full of transition for all four of us.

Chris began the year as a seminary student at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He graduated in May with a Master of Divinity degree. He was ordained to the work of the Gospel in June. We thank all of you who honored him with your presence at this ordination. Chris began a new work as a full-time pastor in September. We ask prayer for our ministry. Chris is leading a congregation of mostly second-generation Koreans. He is English Minister at the Korean First Baptist Church of San Francisco. We began with about 10 people -- mostly college students -- and now have about twenty. Growth is promising but numbers are still few. Keep Chris in your prayers: that he provides wise spiritual leadership, that he stays faithful to his calling, and that our little church may grow to become salt & light to all people in the Bay Area.

Kim was officially promoted to department chair in the Instructional Design Department at San Francisco State University in June. She then retuned on mission with Chris to Africa – Uganda, Rwanda, Congo – in July. In September, Kim became a “sa-mo-nim”. That’s a Korean word for “pastor’s wife”. This is an important position in the Korean church and community. She contributes a lot of effort into helping Chris in spiritual and practical ways. Kim is a role model for college students and a liaison between the Korean and American sides of our church. Keep Kim in your prayers, that she finds the proper balance in her life between academic pursuits and church concerns.

Simon started the year living in San Francisco, moved into our Mill Valley home for a few months, and now lives in New York City. He is a first year art student at the New School / Parson’s college in Manhattan. Simon is getting adjusted to east coast living and is now enjoying his artistic life. He just produced a hip-hop CD, printing up 1000 of them. Pray for Simon that he finds nourishing fellowship in New York, that he maintains his spiritual footing.

Zachary continues to grow as a Dominican brother at Saint Albert’s Priory in Oakland and as a student at the Theological school in Berkeley. He completed a Master’s degree in Philosophy / except for the thesis / he’s procrastinating. Pray for Zachary that he makes godly decisions in regard to his future in the Catholic Church. It is becoming “crunch time” for Brother Zacharias, to vow or not to vow. We thank you all for your continuing kindness towards us.

Blessings upon blessings to you all,

Chris & Kim, Zachary & Simon
