Going to Church Every Sunday

I understand that the First Church of Christ in Whiting is still extant. That's the report frm Jim Francis. This was a non-denominational denomination and part of the Disciples of Christ.

There was never a time that I can remember that I was not in church. As soon as we moved to Indiana in 1950, my dad brought all six of us kids to the First Church of Christ in Whiting. It was one of the few Protestant churches in our Catholic neighborhood. This is mom and dad and Frank and Chris from the 1968 church directory

Below is a nursery certificate from when I was one year old and living in Ohio.
There is also a certificate from Sunday School in Whiting.

I remember my first pastor, Graham Thickens from Australia. I remember the church picnics and the Sunday School classes with the nice old ladies. Rev. Thickens left in about 1960 and George Davis became our new minister. I was baptised by him in 1961. At the insistance of my mom, I also attended lots of youth meetings until I was about 16.

Here is my baptism certificate:

This is a picture taken in front of the Church of Christ, with everyone standing out front, maybe 1957?

1955?

In 1959 our church had a mother-of-the-year contest. Our mom won !!

Shortly after that, the church also had a father-of-the-year contest. This time dad won. I wonder, Was the fix in?

The hymns have always stuck with me. They carried me through some tough times in college.
