Watching TV
~ from about 1955 to 1965 ~
TV watching was more important to me than I like to admit.
TV was a babysitter for me and Frank, and later an accompanyment to homework.
In about 1960 dad bought our first color TV.
Below are memories of those ten years of TV watching.
The shows are aproximately how my nostaliga orders them chonologically.

Mostly 1950s TV

1.

I remember Kukla, Fran and Olli. It's about the earliest TV I can think of.

2.

About the same time, I watched Howdy Doody. But this my brother Jack's favorite show.

3.

There was also this wierd show called Pinky Lee.

4.

I remember Captain Kangaroo. But being about 8 years old, I was too old for that.

5.

About the earliest TV cartoon I can remember is Tom Terrific with his sidekick Mighty Manfred.

6.

Another early cartoon was Crusader Rabbit.

7.

A lot of 1950s TV was cinema from the 1930s and 40's, like Mighty Mouse.

8.

Another old cartoon that made 1950s TV was Popeye.
      There was also Woody Woodpecker

9.

In a category by itself in the Mickey Mouse Club. This show diserves its own page.
One of my favorites was Disney shows was

10.

One of the earliest cartoons with "advanced" humor was Beany and Cecil.
Here is clip from an offshoot of Beany and Cecil called Spunky.

11.

I watched several shows slightly and remember their themes well. There is:   Little Lulu, and   Heckle and Jeckle,
and   Felix the Cat.

12.

Two shows that I grew up with on TV were a generation older than me.
Of course I watched The Three Stooges.
Saturday mornings would not be complete without Flash Gordon reruns.

Mostly 1960s TV

13.

Garfield Goose was a local Chicago show. During the hour, lots of little features were aired.

Here are some Winter time clay-mations that I remember from Gar Goose:   Hardrock, Coco and Joe and   Frosty the Snowman
Sadly, I also remember Clutch Cargo, and  Bucky and Pepino and   Diver Dan.

14.

The early 60s brought new shows, one was a Chicago local called Bozo's Circus.
The Walker kids liked that one.

15.

The new Bugs Bunny show also appeared, although I liked cinematic cartoons better.

16.

During the early sixties, I was also a fan of Soupy Sales. At noon every Saturday, Frank and I would watch. We would try to arouse Jack from his slumbers. Sometimes he dragged himself upstairs, sometimes he didn't.

17.

One of my favorite themes was from UnderDog.
About the same time was The Dick Tracy Show
and Quick Draw McGraw

18.

The 1960s started with one of the all time bests, the Rock and Bullwinkle show.

Here are some clips from Rocky and Bullwinkle:
Here's Bullwinkle hawking cornflakes on Bullwinkle' Corner, and spoofing Chet Huntley. Finally, this Dudley Dooright reminds of my good buddy, Jimmy Francis

19.

Here are some cartoon themes that are near the end of my cartoon watching days:
Mr. MaGoo,   and RoadRunner   and SuperChicken.

20.

Finally, just as my TV days were coming to a close, Frank (me brudder) began to collect Marvel comic books. He began to watch Spiderman and other marvel cartoons on TV

We also watched a lot of commercials: here are a few of them.

There may be more stuff, but for now that's it !!
