• 1. a period of one thousand years
• 2. in theology, the period of a thousand years during which Satan will be bound and Christ will reign on earth (with "the") Rev. xx. 1-5.
• 3. any period of great happiness, peace, proserity, etc.; an imanged golden age.

In definition one, The word "millennium" captures the imaginations of historians -- In definition two, the imaginations of theologians -- and in definition three, the imaginations of sociologists and futurists. We all take a step back, take a wider perspective at the threshold of a millennium.
