Greece, 997 --- Samuel, the Bulgarian czar raids Byzantine possessions in Greece, but is defeated and wounded. The struggle for supremacy in the Balkans between Samuel and Basil continues.
Hungary, 997 --- The Christianized Magyar Duke Geza, also known as "Stephen" becomes new ruler of Hungary.
Poland, 999 --- Boleslave, ruler of Poland, exploits Bohemian anarchy to attack Silesia, Morovia and Krakow
Norway, 1000 --- Vikings sail far west across the Atlantic possibly landing in Iceland.
