Of all the attitudes that Jesus showed His disciples, perhaps humility was most important. He said, “If you want to be great in God’s Kingdom, learn to be the servant of all”. Humility is the twin-face of love and as the last supper was ending, Jesus desired to show the full extent of His love. Jesus removed His outer clothes and wrapped a servant’s towel around His waist. He filled a basin with water. Then He began to wash the dirty feet of His followers. One-by-one He knelt before His followers and in silence washed their feet. When He was finished, He said, “Since I have washed your feet, you should wash one another’s feet”. Then He said, “I am giving you a new command. Love one another as I have loved you. By this all people will know that you are my followers: if you love one another”. |
