For a time Jesus was the most popular figure in all the land of Israel. Just one week before He died on the cross, Jesus triumphantly entered the capitol city of Jerusalem. In fulfillment of messianic prophecy, Jesus passed into the city sitting on a donkey. Many people were in town because it was Passover time. Great crowds cheered Jesus, laying their clothes on the ground ahead of him and putting palm branches in His path. They shouted, “Hosanna, blessed is the King that comes in the name of the Lord.” The Jewish leaders who were jealous of His popularity said to one another, “What can we do? The whole world has gone after Him.” |
