Part 32 ~ Pentecost

Fifty days after the Jews celebrate Passover, they celebrate a holiday called Pentecost. It was on this day that 120 followers of Jesus were gathered together in Jerusalem. Suddenly the room was filled with the sound of a mighty rushing wind. There appeared tongues of fire resting above each believer. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages. This was the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy, “I will pour out my Spirit on all mankind”. This also fulfilled the words of Jesus. “I will not leave you alone as orphans. I will send you another comforter that will stay with you forever”. The coming of the Holy Spirit gives us power to witness. The coming of the Holy Spirit marks the birthday of the church.
