God chose David to be the great king of Israel, because David had a heart after God. David – the man who killed the giant, wrote the psalms, and unified the kingdom – was the anointed leader from God. David was born in the town of Bethlehem and as a boy served as a shepherd. His reign as king lasted forty years. Then he died in his capitol city of Jerusalem. One thousand years later, Jesus Christ – the Good Shepherd -- would be born in Bethlehem as a descendant of David. Wise men would visit the child Jesus giving Him gifts fit for a king. Upon His death in Jerusalem the written accusation against Jesus would read “King of the Jews”. |
