In 1995 I sorted through all 40 boxes of my slides. I selected 200 that I especially liked and paid one dollar apiece to have them digitized onto a Kodak CD ROM. Later I selected another 100 slides and some photo prints to put on a third CD ROM. The technology is old, but the pictures are still great.
